Our Future

In 2014, Point Hope Maritime was operating at capacity and turning business away. With the desire to continue investing in the future of the shipyard, the Ralmax Group of Companies purchased, from the Province of British Columbia, the marine industrial property that Point Hope Maritime utilizes. This investment was supported by the City of Victoria as it allowed for ongoing private investment, created more union jobs, and continued economic development in the city. For Point Hope Maritime, land ownership was a catalyst for further expansion and modernization of the shipyard and its associated businesses.

In 2015, the Ralmax Group purchased the former Ramsay Machine Works building in Sidney, BC which became the new primary home for United Engineering. Moving the bulk of its operations from the shipyard enabled the construction of additional spur lines once again increasing capacity. Altering the footprint of the shipyard also made possible the opportunity to pursue the construction of a graving dock – a proposal that would enable Point Hope to service more and different vessels up to 170m in length with a 6 m draft.

In 2017, based on demand, partnerships and future needs, Point Hope Maritime submitted an application to Transport Canada and the City of Victoria to construct a graving dock. Providing Point Hope receives all the required approvals and permits, construction of the graving dock would take approximately 2 years. The addition of a graving dock will create approximately 200 new jobs. Currently more than 650 businesses – majority of them from the region – provide supplies, goods and services to Point Hope Maritime.
